Saint-George/Pécou «Caribbean violin concerto» Project
Romuald Grimbert-Barré – Violin
Thierry Pécou – Composer
Cannes National Orchestra, conducted by Benjamin Levy
Label: Aparté Music, released May 15, 2026
To mark the 280th anniversary of the birth of the Chevalier de Saint-Georges, this project celebrates the encounter between two seemingly opposing legacies, yet united by history: that of the Enlightenment and that of Caribbean Creole society.
Romuald Grimbert-Barré's violin brings into dialogue the music of Saint-Georges, an emblematic figure of Enlightenment thought and classical aesthetics, with a contemporary work by composer Thierry Pécou, inspired by Caribbean rhythms and imagery and celebrating the Enlightenment composer.
This album is a musical and spiritual tribute to the unique journey of Saint-Georges, a free spirit, visionary, and symbol of dialogue between metropolitan France and its overseas territories. Between European classicism and insular rhythms, he explores the multiple facets of the Enlightenment; the violin becomes a link, an instrument of memory, fire and rebirth.
